Travel Companions 30+

Do you enjoy travel but put it off because it's not affordable as a single person, not fun traveling alone, or too much work to organize by yourself? Travel may be a day trip, a weekend outing, or a longer vacation overseas. If you are single, divorced, widowed, or your partner or friends don't like to travel, this is the group for you. It can open the door to expansion of horizons, personal enrichment, and the rejuvenation of  body and mind that travel brings.
This group is for people 30 years of age and older (whether in actual years or maturity) who wish to travel with one or few people and appreciate the companionship and cost sharing. Having a travel companion does not mean you have to share a bedroom--you may book lodging so each person has their own bedroom and bathroom. Nor does it mean that you do everything together--you may arrange some independent sightseeing or time alone during the trip.
Members have joined this group because of their interest in finding travel companions and broad similarity in age group. So this group is especially well suited for those who like to organize their own trip (independent travel), which provides more flexibility of time and sightseeing than a commercial tour and may cost less; for those who want to find a roommate for an organized tour or cruise; and for travel professionals who wish to advertise tours to a  more targeted audience. This group is not suitable for those who want to travel alone/solo. Please note: members assume total responsibility for choosing travel companions and traveling with them.
Also, the Group Organizer plans one or two overseas trips a year, and like any member of the group, holds a meetup  for those who are interested in joining. Destinations in 2016 are Kyoto, Japan, in July and north  Italy in November.  In 2017, destinations may be Morocco in late April and Myanmar (Burma) in November. Future destinations would be mostly Europe, including France, Tuscany, and Austria.  (If you are interested, please contact the Group Organizer after joining the group.)
Because joining the group is not monitored (meaning anyone can join), if you are seeking a travel companion for a future trip or to share a room during a tour, it is safer and best to hold your own meetup and connect with those interested. This is easy to do, guidance is provided.
Every now and then, we have meetups at cultural events--art exhibits, concerts, dance performances--with a strong connection to another country or culture. Past events have included Swan Lake ballet to Tchaikovsky's music at Pacific Northwest Ballet and an evening of Indonesian dance performances. These meetups at cultural events provide you the opportunity to meet members with similar interests who are potential friends or future travel companions. Occasionally, we may have informal meetups over a meal at a restaurant in Houston, usually an ethnic restaurant.
Announcements of tours by tour operators are meant to provide members with options and opportunities, as well as convenience. For example, group members who are tour operators will be advertising day and weekend tours as well as international tours. Such tour announcements are not necessarily endorsements of a tour company or a tour. Please note: members assume total responsibility for joining advertised tours.
Travel professionals or companies are welcome to advertise tours to this group and reach our audience of people who are interested in travel. Such tour announcements includes a description and photos, and you send further information directly to the members who express interest in the tour. You may need to join the group temporarily. There is a modest financial charge that is applied directly to our Meetup's group. For details, please contact the Group Organizer.
Join us and enjoy the benefits and joys of travel and companionship!
